I Am Going To The FDR Memorial! A new support for people with autism in DC!

Another big thank you to the NEA Foundation Global Fellowship for bringing me to Washington, DC last week. I used my free time to run out and take pictures for a whole set of books about the memorials near the Tidal Basin.  If you have not seen the FDR Memorial I highly recommend it!

Love to London! A New Ability Guidebook! I Am Going To Hear Big Ben!

This Ability Guidebook takes you on a walk from the Westminster tube station, onto Westminster Bridge and around the Houses of Parliament.

There will be a separate book on how to visit Victoria Tower Gardens. Check out the map for toilet facilities. I had to draw my own map for this one! It took me a day but sometimes these books need a map to be successful. I’ve discovered it is faster to just draw my own rather than try to find someone who will let me use their maps

There are over sixty Ability Guidebooks now for 12 countries and in five languages! I always am looking for volunteer translators. Say hello if you would like to translate a book!

Hello London! You Have A New Support For People With Autism! I Am Going To The British Museum!!

Every museum in the world should have an Ability Guidebook as far as I’m concerned!  I’ll put that on my to-do list.  Until then, here’s one for the British Museum!

And in honor of their amazing staff, I want to share a little story. While Mike and I were visiting a young lady went into a series of grand mal seizures. While I timed the seizures the security guard laid down on the floor and used his body to protect the young lady from hitting any of the sharp edged cases. It was quick thinking on his part and the museum staff worked quickly to clear the area and get supports there for the young woman.  Kudos to the staff of the British Museum.

A New Ability Guidebook for Washington, D.C.! I Am Going To The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial!

Ability Guidebook_ I Am Going To The MLK Memorial-2This past weekend was the National Education Association Foundation Global Fellows Conference. The NEA has chosen educators from all over the country to represent US education in South Africa next summer. I am thrilled to be one of them.

In my usual fashion I ran from the building during our down time to create some new books for Washington, D.C.  It is always an honor to walk through the capitol in my opinion and I am constantly moved by the grand architecture and the beautiful memorials.  My hope is that these books will help people with autism to experience this amazing city.

A beautiful city park. A whole bunch of cats. What’s not to love?

Another Ability Guidebook for Lima, Peru! I Am Going To The Love Park!

One of these days I am going to get completely caught up! One book at a time…

In the summer of 2015 I travelled to Peru as a National Education Association Global Fellow. It was an amazing experience and we saw some of the great museums and cultural sights of Peru including Machu Picchu. The Peru Department of Education welcomed us and we toured schools and met students and teachers at one of Peru’s most respected schools and again at one of Peru’s poorest school. It was an incredibly enriching experience.

My way of paying back the lovely people of Peru who treated me with such kindness and respect is to make Ability Guidebooks. I’ve previously posted a book for the Inca Museum in Cusco and now I’m thrilled to add another book to the list for Peru.

A Brand New Ability Guidebook for Italy! I Am Going to the Roman Forum!

Rome is such an amazing city! Just walking through its cobblestone streets, soaking in the architecture and the history, feel like a gift. My way of saying thank you is to create these Ability Guidebooks with the photos from my visit. I invite others to do the same–create an Ability Guidebook for their own community. I will help any way I can!

Without further ado, I introduce the newest Ability Guidebook, this one for the Roman Forum!
